The mission of the Conservatory Lab Charter School is to cultivate young people who are scholars, artists, and leaders. In the students' eighth grade year, they engage in a semester-long capstone project experience in which they are asked to harness and to integrate the skills they have developed as scholars, artists, and leaders and to use these skills in the context of a community-situated social justice project. In this workshop, with student participation, we will share the vision, materials, and process that we developed at Conservatory Lab Charter School for eighth grade students to leverage art as a vehicle for engaging in activism and social justice work.
